Director of Interpretation

The director of interpretation must be an exceptional storyteller with demonstrated success in developing narrative strategies for usage across a variety of outputs/channels, with a focus on spatial experiences. This role will be responsible for leading Bluecadet’s content team, developing collaborative processes, participating in the development of concepts, and directing the development of great stories.

You must be an experienced leader with the ability to maximize the talents of our diverse content team. Doing so means being a coach, a teacher, an instructor, and a critic all at once. You will work across all disciplines, including collaborating with visual designers, spatial designers, film directors, account managers, and creative directors on a daily basis. You must be hands-on, enjoy mentoring others, consistently demonstrate optimism and resilience, be resourceful and believe that you can do more with less.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leads the research and creation of creative content and storytelling approaches for existing clients and prospective clients 

  • Leads narrative development for new business efforts, and supports new business pitches

  • Leads workshops that invite effective collaboration, and energizes clients, curators and content experts, helping them to feel excited about being part of a great process

  • Leads large, complex, content projects

  • Leads the interpretive planning efforts during the design of large spatial experiences

  • Brings a unique voice and point of view to the table

  • Leads the research, organization and prioritization of content, bringing it to life through compelling narratives

  • Leads the research and curation of media content—images, video, audio—that support the design and narrative objectives 

  • Provides feedback and suggestions to client-side content efforts

  • Manages the process for conducting stakeholder interviews to capture and synthesize client perspectives

  • Manages the process and facilitates collaboration with the Experience Design team to categorize information into meaningful structures, including mapping narratives to space / user journey

  • Builds and cultivates a world-class team of storytellers and researchers capable of leading and supporting the creation of exceptional experiences for a wide range of purpose-driven clients

  • Works with Director of Production to ensure strong staffing plans as it relates to content strategy and development

  • Offers budgeting expertise to PMs and content developers to vet budgets

  • Formalizes and standardizes methods and processes

  • Advocates for the team on a leadership / agency level

  • Collaborates with the communications team on agency language around positioning

Requirements 

 

  • 8+ years of experience in a leadership role 

  • Experience developing content for usage across a variety of outputs/channels, with a focus on spatial experiences

  • Excellent copywriting and editing skills

  • Familiarity with museum and archival research practices a plus

  • Advanced experience conducting stakeholder interviews

  • Strength in and passion for storytelling 

  • Sensitive to a variety of audiences

  • Must have excellent workshop, presentation and communication skills

  • Experience working with presentation software such as Google Slides, Keynote, and PowerPoint is a plus!

  • Detail-oriented

  • Advanced experience managing the content development process in a client-services environment.

  • Strong ability to provide clear content direction and provide timely and helpful feedback to improve processes to keep work on budget and schedule.

  • Strong ability to prioritize work and resources across engagements based on short and long-term needs.

  • Proven mentoring, supervisory, and team-building skills.
